Conventionally, language acquisition techniques have proved effective, based on structured classroom approaches and face-to-face instruction. Although these methods are effective, they consume significant time and resources. Thus, such approaches restrict expandability and adaptability to meet the needs of diverse learners. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based applications has altered the paradigm. Unlike traditional methods, ChatGPT uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to provide fast, customized responses on grammar, style, and coherence. It has high-order language-processing abilities, allowing learners to refine and revise their writing. It is consistent with modern ELT theories, which focus on the implementation of technology in the classroom that would promote learner autonomy. This research examines the potential of ChatGPT in the instruction and revision of writing skills, comparing it with traditional systems and recent teaching methods. The study takes a conceptual and comparative approach, using the existing literature and pedagogical theories to examine the role of ChatGPT in writing instruction.
